# What is fiscal-year dividend yield?

A retrospective snapshot: the reported dividend per share for a fiscal year divided by a closing price at that fiscal year's end.

Fiscal-year dividend yield = annual dividend/share ÷ year-end close × 100

## Which closing price is used?

Use the last positive split-only close on or before fiscal year-end, no more than 14 days earlier. If none is available, use a positive Stooq adjusted close within the same period and label the result an approximation. No future price or stale close is substituted. Weekly sampling can mean the eligible close is a few days before the fiscal period ends.

## Worked example: Apple Inc.

For the fiscal period ending 2025-09-27, the stored annual dividend/share is 1.02 USD. The eligible close is 254.97 on 2025-09-26.

1.02 ÷ 254.97 × 100 = 0.40%

This example uses a Stooq adjusted close and is an approximation. Calculations use stored precision; displayed inputs are rounded. ## How to interpret it

This is neither a forward dividend yield nor a yield based on today's stock price. It does not reconstruct quarterly payments or include reinvestment. Fiscal-year dates can differ from calendar-year dates.

A missing dividend or eligible price produces an unavailable yield. A reported zero dividend can produce 0%; missing data cannot. Adjusted-price denominators may differ from the actual price traded at year-end.

The chart overlay starts off; enable Annual dividend yield to compare fiscal-year observations on its percentage scale. The static company tables show the complete stored history independently of the selected chart range.
